Children’s Media Association (CMA) is a nonprofit organization comprised of professionals who are committed to creating and distributing thoughtful, entertaining media to children and young adults. CMA supports this community by producing educational events, promoting professional development, and helping our members to lead, innovate, and shape the future of children's media. The Children's Media Association is a volunteer-run organization.

BOARD OF OFFICERS ELECTIONS!

It's that time of year again. CMA is ramping up for our Fall 2017 elections and we want YOU to join the Board of Officers.  Here are the volunteer positions that will become available starting January 2018:

President

Are you ready to lead CMA as it continues on an exciting path of expansion and innovation? CMA is looking for a strategic thinker with a passion for inspiring our thriving community! The President supervises the general affairs of CMA and works closely with the Board of Officers and Board of Directors to set and meet organizational goals. Serving as the face of the organization, the President maintains and leads the development of new partnerships, chapters, and internal infrastructure.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop organizational-wide goals and objectives based on measurable outcomes
  • Coach and manage stellar Board Officers and Chapter Leaders  
  • Serve as the face of CMA, communicating our mission, offerings, and accomplishments
  • Advocate for a rewarding volunteer, member and partner experience
  • Actively engage in fundraising, working closely with the Director of Development to identify, recruit and meet the needs of industry partners
  • Oversee the development and approval of operating budgets and internal infrastructure
  • Track and evaluate organizational performance, communicating progress on CMA’s program offerings, organizational management and internal infrastructure to the Board
  • Lead chapter development, maintaining relationships with chapters in existing markets and overseeing the development of chapter proposals in new markets
  • Set the agenda and preside at all meetings of the Board
  • Support and participate in CMA events and activities

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have management experience
  • Experience building and maintaining partnerships with clients within a work environment preferred
  • Must have strong communication skills (verbal, written, and electronic)
  • Must have a strong understanding of or interest in Google Apps
  • Takes personal ownership of key tasks and can make progress independently
  • Must be detail-oriented and a creative problem-solver capable of managing projects and independent tasks simultaneously in a fast paced changing environment and possesses excellent follow-up skills
  • The ability and passion to attend events as a representative of CMA.

 

Vice President

Do you have strong organizational skills and want to oversee the organizational endeavors of CMA behind-the-scenes? The Vice President will assist the President as needed in all organizational matters, focusing mainly on operations and will closely support the President in achieving organization-wide goals. The Vice President will run officers' meetings when the President is absent, and is responsible for reporting back to the President on any urgent matters. The Vice President will attend events whenever possible to help support the event staff as well as speak to members and potential members about membership.

Responsibilities:

  • Project manage most CMA-wide initiatives including but not limited to external agencies and work-for-hire consultants
  • Oversee departmental specific initiatives including those of the Director of Digital and Director of Events.  
  • Plan agenda for CMA internal initiatives including but not limited to elections process and officer retreats
  • Assist the President as needed
  • Support and participate in as many CMA events and activities as possible
  • Attend meetings of the board, committees, committee chairs and planning sessions as required

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have strong communication skills (verbal, written, and electronic)
  • Must have a strong understanding and working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Apps
  • Takes personal ownership of key tasks and can make progress when required to work independently
  • Must be detail-oriented and a creative problem-solver capable of managing projects and independent tasks simultaneously in a fast paced changing environment and possesses excellent follow-up skills
  • The ability and passion to attend events as a representative of CMA.

 

Treasurer

Do you have strong financial skills and want to be a part of CMA’s growth? Become our next Treasurer! The treasurer works closely with the Board to help set and meet financial goals. Specifically, the Treasurer develops the annual budget, keeps full and accurate accounts of receipts and disbursements, handles deposits, prepares taxes, and maintains valuable documents for CMA. In addition, the Treasurer renders statements accounts at meetings of the Board and to Officers or Directors of CMA.

Responsibilities

  • Observe and itemize expenses for the organization
  • Work closely with the President to develop operating budget and fiscal goals.
  • Track yearly expenses and fees; keeping Board and events team informed of their budgets and spending
  • Manage expense reports with Events and other board departments and distribute checks for reimbursement
  • Manage and resolve organization accounts with vendors and contractors; ensuring timely payments and deposits
  • Manage and prepare the organization's taxes
  • Maintain records of CMA’s fiscal and infrastructure accounts
  • Monitor mail and assist with administration as needed

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Must have strong communication skills (verbal, written, and electronic)
  • Must have a working knowledge of or interest in Quickbooks, Microsoft Office and Google Apps
  • Takes personal ownership of key tasks and can make progress when required to work independently
  • Must be detail-oriented and a creative problem-solver capable of managing several tasks simultaneously in a fast paced changing environment and possesses excellent follow-up skills
  • The ability and passion to attend events as a representative of CMA.


Secretary

Do you have strong organizational skills and want to oversee the administrative endeavors of CMA behind-the-scenes? The Secretary will organize all aspects of monthly Board of Officer meetings and semi-annual Board of Director meetings.  The Secretary will also lead planning for all retreats and volunteer get togethers.  In addition, the Secretary will monitor and facilitate the voting process for all positions, either online or in person.  Furthermore, the secretary will lead the onboarding and offboarding process of all incoming and outgoing CMA volunteers.

Responsibilities:

  • Arrange Board of Officer and Board of Director meetings and retreats including location, scheduling, materials, and refreshments
  • Take notes during and distribute notes following all meetings
  • Have knowledge of and speak to Bylaws in meetings
  • Organize voting process and prepare ballots
  • Lead the onboarding and offboarding of CMA volunteers including, but not limited to, drafting Letters of Commitment, updating CMA organization chart and contact sheet, setting up volunteers on various internal organizational and communication systems, and monitoring contract renewal dates
  • Draft letters on official CMA Letterhead for Treasurer, as needed
  • Assist the President and Vice President, as needed
  • Support and participate in as many CMA events and activities as possible

  • General Event Coordinators - help coordinate and assist in the planning and production of the CMA events
